Can you believe we are just a week away from Memorial Day weekend?! I for one am struggling with the idea that it’s basically summer, when we’ve had the coldest, gloomiest weather these past few weeks. I know Ohio weather is always crazy, but it’s been especially strange. Anyway, it looks like warm sunshine is on the horizon and I can’t wait to kick off the summer of celebrating with a fun Memorial Day weekend. I will actually be celebrating at a friend’s bachelorette party, but I hope to visit a cookout or two as well. Here’s what I’ve been pinning and pining over. These recipes are simple with hints of red, white and blue so you can celebrate with a patriotic twist.
What are you looking forward to this summer? One obvious answer for me would be warmer weather! Right now it’s 50 degrees in mid-May here in Ohio. SO STRANGE. Our weather has been super strange all winter and spring long. I’m keeping my hopes up that summer will bring the expected – heat and sunshine! But it’s Ohio, so we’ll see about that. 😉
Regardless of the weather, there is so much else to be excited for this summer. Here’s what I’m looking forward to: (Keep Reading for a chance to win a $500 Victoria’s Secret Gift Card!)
I’m no newbie to makeup. I’ve been playing around with the stuff since I was 6 years old and I’d crack open my sisters’ Caboodles and get into the lipstick, blush and eyeshadow. Whatever colors I could find, the better. Now as the years have passed my own personal makeup collection has grown beyond what’s useful or necessary. I’ve been trying to slim down my own makeup collection. The 6 items I’ve listed below would make a perfect starter kit for someone just getting into makeup, or a streamlined collection for someone trying to pare down their makeup drawer (me!) and even a simple collection to keep as your travel/gym makeup bag (me too!). Here are the 6 (cheap) basics I recommend for a simple makeup kit.
Years ago, before prohibition, Cincinnati was booming with breweries. Unfortunately, during the years of prohibition, the breweries closed down and the buildings went vacant for many years. Lucky for us, the craft beer scene has seen a revival in recent years and all of us Cincinnatians get to enjoy a wide variety and style of local craft beer.
To be considered a top choice brew, the beer must be made by a locally owned brewery and offer a unique taste you won’t find anywhere else. In addition to being available at local bars, each of these breweries has it’s own tap room that are each worth a visit. Whether you’re a local learning about the craft beer offerings in Cincinnati, or visiting for a weekend, you’ll be glad you tried any of the below top five locally brewed craft beers.
One of the many reasons I love Cincinnati is because of our awesome music scene. Seriously, any night of the week you can find live, typically local and often free music at nearby venues and neighborhood bars. I’ve discovered new favorite bands and have easily expanded my tastes because of all the options that are available here. I spent last weekend seeing Brick + Mortar for the 4th time in Cincinnati and it was great to see how their audience has grown. And this weekend I’ll be seeing a local favorite, One Day Steady, perform in OTR.
Are you a Target shopper? I actually grew up without Target in my life and finally shopped at one after I moved to Cincinnati for college. At first, I didn’t quite understand the obsession. But I soon understood after getting some cute clothes and, of course, always being drawn in by the dollar section near the entrance. I swear it’s always the cutest seasonal items. To help rationalize my Target addiction, I typically only purchase clothes that are marked down and try to use coupons for other items. Since Target created their Cartwheel app. It’s really easy to save money. Here’s 3 reasons why I love the Target Cartwheel App. And be sure to keep reading for a chance to win a $200 Target gift card!
What’s on your agenda for the weekend? This weekend will be the first and last “quiet” weekend I’ll have for awhile, so I’m making the most of it and spending my time relaxing. Other than dinner plans I hope to do some reading, have a few great workouts and catch up on or start a new show on Netflix. I almost don’t want to admit this, but I have yet to watch House of Cards, even though I have only heard great things about it. So maybe this weekend I’ll finally see what all the talk is about.

This last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the 2016 Cincinnati Flower Show including Saturday night’s Bourbon Tasting. The sun came out and the weather was perfect for a flower show. I’m already looking forward to next year’s show and special events. My full recap is below!
